IEB Matric Results Are Officially Out Check Now

IEB Matric Results Are Officially Out Check Now. Today marks the release of exam results for the IEB Matric Class of 2023. There have been some noticeable improvements, despite the challenging conditions that learners had to deal with during the exam period.

The IEB is an independent assessment agency, separate from State and Provincial examination boards, operating within the constraints of national legislation and provisions of the national quality assurance body, Umalusi.

Umalusi has granted the IEB accreditation for the assessment of the National Senior Certificate and adult examinations at NQF Level 1. The IEB offers examinations for client schools at the Grade 12 level, in line with national policy, based on the National Curriculum Statements and using various forms of assessment, including final summative examination and continuous assessment – i.e. orals, practicals and portfolios.

The School Section acts in accordance with Umalusi prescriptions and the
provisions of Higher Education, using professional educationalists who are practising teachers in the various subject disciplines. These teachers are active members of IEB Subject User Groups which engage with the curriculum and make recommendations on assessment practice based on real school experience. The IEB offers assessments including international benchmarking tests at other levels to participating schools.

The much anticipated day for matric learners of schools belonging to the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has arrived. The 2023 final exam results for this cohort of matriculants have officially been released.

The IEB matric class of 2024 has achieved a pass rate of 98.42% in their matric exams, slightly higher than last year’s pass rate of 98.39%.

This cohort received its matric results at Midnight on Tuesday.

The number of IEB learners who obtained bachelor passes increased from 88.41% in 2021 to 89.32% in 2023. However, those who obtained Diploma entry-level passes decreased from 7 .82% in 2021 to 7.52% in 2023.

Candidates who obtained a Higher Certificate level passes increased from 1.37% in 2021 to 1.57%  in 2023.

The candidates who have passed will be able to enter tertiary education at one of the three levels. The IEB class of 2023 consisted of 12 580 full-time participants as well as 945 part-time learners in 262 examination centres across Southern Africa who sat for the IEB exams in October and November 2023.

The number of candidates is less than the 12 857 full-time and 968 part-time applicants in 2021. This, according to the IEB Board, is partly due to the fact that 500 candidates from nearby SADC countries such as Eswatini, Mozambique, and Namibia, who had previously taken the IEB’s NSC examinations, enrolled in and took the IEB’s International Secondary Certificate’s inaugural examinations (IEB ISC).

The National Senior Certificate (NSC) was recently changed in South Africa’s regulatory framework, and as a result, independent schools outside of South Africa were no longer eligible to take the NSC. In response, the IEB created the International Senior Certificate (ISC).

Candidates who would like to apply for remarking have until 31 January 2024 with the remarking results due to be released on 1 March 2024.
